April 6^th

Received general inquiry from M about used Linx 7900, I state again the used printer condition in reply email, which will be upgraded to 3 lines, main board cracked, 95% new, English language. Also provide shipping info such as packing size, gross weight, shipping method and time.

April 7^th

M needs confirmation of above information. Replied with pictures of the used Linx 7900 CIJ printer, which will be sent to M(if he pays for it).

April 7^th

M noticed the print head nozzle size is not the one he wants, ask for quotation again.

April 8^th

Quoted again with the print head M required, also mentioning that our umbilical length is of 2 meter, not 4 meters. M replied it’s ok and attached with PO in email.

April 8^th

PI sent and received prompt payment from M. Prepare for testing.

If you are thinking Domino 1.2 liter cartridge, try think out of the box a little bit.

The largest capacity of ink cartridge I ever seen is of 25 liter. Huge barrel and total stunning at first sight. Then coming with 20 liter and 15 liter.

Why we have such gigantic ink cartridge? This is made per customer requirement. Some clients are able to fill ink in empty cartridges, so they prefer purchasing the liquids in bulk, when they receive the ink, then can start sub-packing the liquids by their own.

I used to tell my customers what you get is what you pay for, but when I start to get inside the refurbished continuous inkjet printer parts/printer trade, I find this is not always true, because what you finally get, may not be what your saw nor paid for.

There is one customer contacted me lately, who was looking for brand new print head. I quoted both brand new and used print head price to customer, attached with brief condition info and a few detail pictures of the used print head. Despite the price gap between brand new & used part is rather distinctive, customer still choose the brand new one, which intrigues me.

After chatting with customer for a while, he revealed his unpleasant used/refurbished part purchasing experience to me, which summarize to a word, tempted by nice picture & lower price of the used parts, but not getting what was shown on picture, get hurt & never buy used parts ever again.

It seems no better way to make sure you are getting what you pay for, unless you march down to your supplier’s office and monitor the whole packing delivery process. As no longer before, I was promoting the crack board of Markem Imaje. Due to the RFID chip price increased sharply since February, many clients start turning to crack board, instead of continuing purchase the ink/make up RFID chips.

One particular client caught my attention and here I would like to share this case.

Client seems to worry about quality a lot, the first thing he asked is about after sales service and will the board totally workable on Imaje printer. Then I ask the three questions, as I already know where he is from, I ask client to provide me info of printer model and what model of ink he is applying now.

During the conversation, client revealed he purchased some crack board before, but unworkable on his printer, however, his supplier claimed the boards are fine to others. So I insist client should provide me with every detail about the printer, better with pictures. From the information given by client, my technician find out it’s applying a special ink on the printer, so we need to modify data in the crack board program, then the crack board can communicate with the main board.

After this incident, it reminds me of the crack board expire date problem. I told my clients the crack board will extend the expire date automatically, but actually it’s not. We need to adjust printer time before the crack board expire date. And I think one client is still unhappy with me for this expire date problem. So I guess communication is very important between supplier and client, between supplier and technicians. Let’s learn from the past and be a better supplier/smarter buyer.
